Although the term "intranet" is frequently heard, which is closely known by IT, HR and Communication teams, its exact meaning may not be known or it may be confused with other platforms. In this article, we will discuss what an intranet is, how it works and what benefits it provides for businesses.

What is an Intranet?

An intranet is a private network that is only accessible to internal employees of a company or organization. It is basically like a subset of the internet but only available to a select group of people. An intranet is a network that allows employees to share information, collaborate, and manage daily business processes on a common platform.

Main Components of Intranet

1. Content and File Sharing: All in-company content, documents, reports, projects and presentations are stored on a central platform and employees can access and update these files.

2. Internal Communication: Internal communication processes such as announcements, event calendars, meeting plans can be done via the intranet.

3. Employee Database: Information such as employee contact information, job descriptions and organizational charts can be included on the intranet.

4. Self-Service Portals: Employees can access payroll information, request leave, or access training resources.

5. Easy Functions: It offers easy functions for various needs within the organization, such as Survey, Organization Chart, Idea Systems, New Joiners to the Company, Birthday Congratulations, Open Positions, etc.


In this regard, especially with the development of cloud technologies, boundaries have disappeared and Intranet platforms have taken on many important roles outside of these roles. It contributes significantly to the digitalization of the diversified needs in the institution with the easy tools it provides.
